Description
Coffee was first planted in Costa Rica in 1808, and by the 1820s, it surpassed tobacco, sugar, and cacao as a primary export. Coffee production remained Costa Rica’s principal source of wealth well into the 20th century, creating a wealthy class of growers, the so-called Coffee Barons.The revenue helped to modernize the country.
Dota – Tarrazu is located about 70 kilometers south of the Capital San Jose, in a pristine valley surrounded by mountains that are part of the Talamanca Sierra in southern Costa Rica. Downtown San Marcos is 1350 meters above sea level but is surrounded by peaks as high as 3000 meters above sea level.
Produced from trees of the Catuai only varieties of Arabica by the Sol Naciente Cooperative and processed by the red honey method. With all honey processing methods, some sweet pulp or fruit flesh (“honey”) is allowed to adhere to the beans during drying. In the red honey variation, all of the pulp is allowed to dry on the beans.
Very delicate, sweetly crisp. sweetly tart acidity, prairie flowers, sarsaparilla in aroma and cup, all carry gently into the sweet-toned, quietly rich zesty finish.
